Master Honours in the South Pacific Division

We offer a huge number of honours and more are becoming available each year.  You may find that there is a topic that interests you.  You may have found that you have talents in a certain areas.

We challenge you to earn a Master Honour and become a specialist in any of the following areas:

  • Aquatic Master - water based activities
  • Artisan Master - arts and crafts specialist
  • Conservation Master - an authority on preserving our natural environment
  • Farming Master - growing things and raising domesticated animals
  • Health Master - health and the wonders of the human body
  • Homemaker Master - home-based skills that will impress your mum and grandma
  • Naturalist Master - understand nature better and wonder in awe at our Creator's handiwork
  • Recreation Master - learn about and participate in activities that invigorate
  • Sportsman Master - master sporting skills in a Christian manner
  • Technician Master - learn and use skills that will last a lifetime
  • Wilderness Master - acquire skills that will help you when off the beaten track
  • Witnessing Master - grow closer to God and share the good news of salvation
  • Zoology Master - based on the wonderful world of animals

We acknowledge the General Conference of Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) and the North American Division of SDA as the source of the following Master Honour Requirements.  Some adjustments have been made to reflect the needs of the South Pacific Division.

Some honours such as Swimming 1 and Swimming 2 are what we call 'entry level' or 'basic level' honours.  They are intended to give participants an introduction to the honour and therefore cannot count towards a Master Honour Award.  Continuing with this example of the Swimming Honours. . .  Swimming 3, 4 and 5 all count towards a Master Honour Award - the Aquatic Master Award. 

The advanced levels of any honour (where available) also count towards the awarding of a Master Award - for example, Lifesaving 2.  We have not included all the advanced honours in the following requirements.

Doubling Up Rule
Some honours may be included in more than one Master Award.  For example, the Shells Honour is part of the Naturalist Master and also the Zoology Master Award.  The rationale is that a shell is part of nature and it is also an animal.  If a Shell Honour has been used to earn a Naturalist Master Award, the same honour cannot be used to earn a Zoology Master Award.  This 'Doubling Up' rule applies to all honours in such a situation.

AQUATIC MASTER

Canoeing; Kayaking; Lifesaving; Navigation; Power Boating; Rowing; Sailing; Scuba Diving; Snorkelling (Skin Diving); Springboard Diving; Swimming 3; 4 or 5; Water Skiing; Wakeboarding; Windsurfing etc.

ARTISAN MASTER

Earn seven Honours in the Arts, Crafts, and Hobbies Category.

CONSERVATION MASTER

Earn seven of the following 'conservation' Honours:
Ecology; Environmental Conservation; Fossils; Geology; Rocks & Minerals; Sand etc

Earn seven Health and Science Honours:
Blood & the Body's Defences; Bones Muscles and Movement; Brain and Behaviour; CPR; Chemistry; Childcare (ie Babysitting); Digestion; First Aid; Health & Healing; Home Nursing; Optics; Physics, etc

HOMEMAKER MASTER

NATURALIST MASTER

Earn five from the following 'nature' honours:
Amphibians; Birds; Ferns; Fungi; Insects; Mammals; Moths and Butterflies; Trees; Shrubs; Stars; Weather

Plus two other Honours in the Nature Category

Note.   Refer to Doubling-Up Rule - ie any honour used in earning a Zoology Master Honour cannot be used.

RECREATION MASTER

Earn five from the following 'recreation-type' Honours:
Cycling; Drill and Marching; Hiking; Horse Riding; Kites; Mountain Biking; Physical Fitness; Skateboarding.

Plus two honours from the Sportsman Master Honour group

SPORTSMAN MASTER

Backpacking; Campcraft; Camping Skills 3 & 4; Edible Wild Plants; Fire Building & Camp Cookery; Hiking; Knot Tying; Map & Compass; Outdoor Leadership; Pioneering; Wilderness Leadership; Wilderness Living; Winter Camping.

WITNESSING MASTER

Note.   A maximum of two ADRA honours may also be included in the seven honours.

ZOOLOGY MASTER

Earn seven of the 'animal honours':

Notes.

  1. Any honour used in earning a Naturalist Master Honour cannot be used.
  2. An 'animal' is defined as a being that has a sense of feeling and can move voluntarily.  That is - something living (or once lived) and is not a plant.
